Welcome to By Jack's Dad
Beech & Walnut planesHi,
I'm Jack's Dad, in January 2007, I wanted to buy Jack, who was 18 month old at the time, some nice wooden toys, something with a bit of durability and made to a good standard.
Guess what? all I could find locally were mass produced, imported, avarage quality, Softwood toys.
Not Good Enough!
So I had a go at making some myself, using European Hardwood's such as Oak, Walnut & Beech. The first attempts were strong and sturdy, but I needed to know they were Safe. I began looking at The Toy (Safety) Regulations 1995 (United Kindom) & the British / European Standard BS EN 71-1 & BS EN 71-3. A few Adjustments needed to be made.
But Jack loved his first car & boat.
So did our friends, the requests for me to make toys for neices and nephews, sons and daughter began. and after the introduction of the plane (as above) I decided to try and sell some of the toys.
At the end of 2007, I applied to, and was accepted by the Country Craft Association (See links), who run craft markets and events in Lincolnshire.
As time progressed, I've added to my range. At the end of 2007 a New Neighbour asked if I could make him a House Name Plate, I enjoyed the idea, and began selling them as well.
In the Spring of 2008, I added candle holders, then came European & Exotic Hardwood pendants, I've just produced some letter openers , keyrings & bookmarks for Father's Day 2008. So what next? Well, I've just introduced some jigsaw puzzles, and this weekend I'll start having a go at making some ear ring and brooches.
